2012 New Seconds Weekend (May 18-20)
The Boston Chapter Mountaineering Committee New Seconds Weekend is being held at the Shawangunk Ridge, or Gunks, located by New Paltz, NY. We will be climbing on land owned and maintained by the Mohonk Preserve, a non-profit corporation dedicated to preserving the environment of the Shawangunk Ridge. The Gunks is located south of the Catskills just west of the NY State Thruway (interstate 87) -- approximately a four hour drive from Boston.
The Gunks is a world class climbing area that has figured prominently in the history and development of the sport. It contains hundreds of outstanding and challenging routes at all levels.
We will be matching each attending graduate of this year's rock climbing program with a leader. If the leader wishes, a second leader or assistant may also join to form a climbing party of three. Non leading assistants should try to make advance arrangements with a leader. We will attempt to match assistants with leaders if resources are available after matching all new seconds.
The new seconds must provide all climbing equipment needed for their personal use. No club gear will be available.
